Megalochori
One of the most central villages of Agistri, Megalochori (also known as Mylos, named after the island’s only windmill that operated until the 1960s) is home to one of the island’s two ports. Hotels and rental rooms, restaurants and cafés, bars and shops—everything you might need can be found here. Its cosmopolitan character is what attracts visitors to its namesake beach, which caters to all preferences (sand and pebbles, with both organized and quieter spots).
Despite its lively atmosphere, Megalochori manages to preserve its traditional charm. A stroll through its paved alleys, lined with stone-built houses and blooming courtyards, is definitely worthwhile.
Bonus Tip: Megalochori is connected to Skala by bus, while its port is also served by ferries of Hellenic Seaways, one of Greece’s leading ferry operators. The company runs frequent routes from Piraeus to Agistri using both conventional and high-speed vessels, with travel times of approximately 1 hour. It is also part of the Attica Group, ensuring reliable service, modern fleets, and excellent connectivity with other islands in the Saronic Gulf.
