Aponisos Island

A must-visit

Aponisos Island

Aponisos is Agistri’s most famous beach and for good reason. Combining crystal-clear turquoise waters, lush pine trees and natural shade, it offers the perfect balance between organised comfort and untouched beauty. Whether you prefer relaxing on a sunbed or stretching out on its iconic white, flat rocks, you’ll find your own piece of paradise. Add water sports, excellent food at one of Agistri’s most beloved tavernas, and an atmosphere that feels almost tropical, and it’s easy to understand why Aponisos is considered one of the island’s highlights. You can choose to spend the day on the eastern, western or northern side of the islet, enjoying the spectacular scenery for just a small entrance fee.

Aponisos is actually a private islet connected to Agistri by a small bridge, creating two beautiful sheltered bays on either side. The bridge is open to visitors every day from late spring until mid-October, between 10:00 and 20:00, except during private events when the venue is exclusively reserved.

One of the most unique experiences is the feeling of quite literally walking from one island to another before diving into the sea. Aponisos is one of Agistri’s hidden treasures and one of the Argosaronic Gulf’s best-kept secrets. Swim from the rocks, the small jetty or the convenient ladders leading directly into the water, and don’t forget to bring your snorkelling mask to fully appreciate the incredible underwater world.

Throughout the day, the on-site snack bar serves club sandwiches, burgers, fresh salads, cocktails and refreshing drinks, all of which can be enjoyed from the comfort of your sunbed. Simply press the service button on your umbrella and a member of the Aponisos team will come to take your order. For those wishing to extend their stay, accommodation options are available nearby and can be found on Airbnb and Booking.com by searching for Aponisos Island Agistri. In addition to the daytime snack bar, an evening cocktail bar now welcomes guests after 20:00 by reservation only, offering the perfect setting to enjoy a signature cocktail while watching the island’s spectacular golden sunset.

Seafood lovers can simply cross the bridge to dine at the famous Aponisos Taverna, enjoying fresh fish and traditional Greek cuisine before returning to the beach using the same entrance ticket. Aponisos appeals to every type of visitor families with children, groups of friends, couples and travellers seeking peace and privacy. Its unique layout allows space for everyone, whether you’re looking for water sports such as SUP, canoeing, water skiing and other sea activities, or a secluded corner surrounded by nature. There are even quiet areas where naturism is practiced.

Aponisos is located approximately 6.5 km from Megalochori, following the road towards Limenaria. Along the way, you’ll also pass Agistri’s natural lake.

And here’s something you probably weren’t expecting: if you’re lucky, you’ll meet some of Aponisos’ permanent residents· Free-roaming peacocks, ducks that occasionally swim in the sea, turtles, rabbits and colourful parrots all call this little paradise home.

Aponisos Island is also available for yoga retreats, weddings, bachelor and bachelorette parties, private celebrations, receptions and a wide variety of special events, making it one of Agistri’s most unique venues for unforgettable experiences.
